How you can help

You love the game of cricket. You love Middlesex.

That need never be forgotten... Leave a lasting legacy to cricket in Middlesex

"May cricket continue to flourish and spread its wings. The world can only be richer for it."

So said the greatest of them all, Sir Don Bradman.

The Don was sadly not a Middlesex man but we feel sure that he would not mind us stealing his words to sum up why the work of the Middlesex Cricket Trust is so vital to the future of our much loved game.

The Don left a legacy of achievement and records to the game that few, if any, can equal. To achieve our ambitions, we need you to consider making a legacy of a different kind.

Just as a will gives security to your family’s future, a legacy to the MCT will help to secure the future of our vital work of enabling youngsters throughout the county to learn and enjoy cricket.

The MCT makes grants that help to fund much-needed facilities in schools, clubs and inner-city areas that have little or no cricket provision. We also fund coach development and make other important contributions that support the encouragement of young people to participate in cricket and become the players and supporters of the future.

Your will

Making a will is the only way that you can ensure that the people you love most will benefit immediately. If you die without one, they could face months of legal wrangling to establish what’s rightfully theirs.

A will also allows you to make a donation to a charity (or charities) of your choice. In the case of the MCT, you could ensure that your love of the game lasts forever through a gift that makes a genuine impact on the development of cricket in Middlesex.

Your legacy at work

Your lasting legacy can make a huge difference.

Cricket facilities around the county are in desperate need of improvement. Junior participation is on the increase but in many parts of Middlesex, there are insufficient facilities. We also need more coaches to teach and inspire young people to play the game. The MCT does not want a lack of resources to be the barrier to any child having the opportunity of being the best that he or she can be.

How to leave a legacy to the MCT

There are various ways in which you can help the MCT when making a will:

  • A Residual Legacy is either the residue or part of your estate after all other legacies, taxes, debts and expenses have been paid.
  • A Pecuniary Legacy is a fixed sum of money. If you are making a will for the first time, we advise you to seek professional assistance, usually from a solicitor.

If you have already made a will, you can add to or change its provisions at any time.

Tax effective giving

A legacy to a registered charity reduces the amount of inheritance tax that your loved ones will have to pay on your estate. So, rather than letting the Inland Revenue get their hands on your wealth, why not put it to the best possible use by supporting the MCT to help cricket flourish in the County.

Legacy or Gift Aid? Answer: Both please!

Q. What is MCT?
A. The Middlesex Cricket Trust was set up to provide opportunities for children to pick up a bat or ball and play our great game.

Q. How is it run?
A. Through a group of Trustees who distribute the money to worthy cricketing causes.

Q. What is Gift Aid?
A. Simply sign a gift aid form for us, write a cheque or fill out a standing order form, and if you are a UK taxpayer, the government will increase the value of your gift by 25%. if you are a higher rate tax payer, you can reduce your personal tax liability as well.

Q. What about legacy?
A. Your legacy will reduce your overall value of your estate and so reduce the amount of inheritance tax that the government will take.

What they said:

"For a cricket lover there can be no better sight than that of kids enjoying our great game. The MCT gives kids in Middlesex the chance to learn how to play cricket in our county with the best coaches and the best facilities. Support the MCT and ensure a bright future for Middlesex cricket."
Andrew Strauss, Middlesex & England

"Without the help of the MCT, we would not have been able to purchase the cricket equipment needed for our junior coaching"
Ewa Gorska, Bethnal Green Technology College
